Darshan Hiranandani - Noida and Greater Noida are on the cusp of a massive industrial transformation. With the recent approval from the Uttar Pradesh government, a mega semiconductor manufacturing project is set to be established near the Noida International Airport. This decision, approved by the UP cabinet, is a landmark move that will not only revolutionize the local economy but will also position Uttar Pradesh as a key player in the global semiconductor industry.

The Vamasundari project, backed by the HCL Group, will see an investment of ₹3,706 crore to set up a manufacturing unit that will produce small panel driver ICs and display driver ICs. The unit aims to produce 240,000 units annually, with an expected workforce of 3,780 individuals.

In addition, Tarq Semiconductor Pvt Ltd, supported by a joint venture with Foxconn, will invest ₹28,440 crore in the region, bringing the total investment to an impressive ₹32,000 crore. The project will span 50 acres and will require significant resources, including 19,000 KVA of electricity and 2,000 MLD of water per day. The state's commitment to this initiative is reflected in a ₹7,037 crore capital subsidy for the firms involved.

Why This Matters

Darshan Hiranandani - This project is poised to create thousands of jobs—1,000 directly and 10,000 indirectly—while boosting the region’s tech infrastructure. The semiconductor industry is the backbone of many modern technologies, and this massive project will put Uttar Pradesh on the map as a key manufacturing center for the digital age.

The project’s success will provide a significant economic boost to the region and further develop the area around the Noida-Jewar corridor. For companies like Vamasundari and Tarq, this partnership represents a major leap forward in India’s ambitions to become a leader in the global semiconductor industry.

With the project expected to begin operations in the next 18 months, the future looks bright for Noida and Uttar Pradesh as they usher in a new era of industrial growth and technological innovation.
